“Latins on the Loose” by James Nolan, Saints & Sinners 2010: New Fiction from the Festival (Queer Mojo).
This is the story of Kirby, a 32 year old gay man trying to escape the French Quarter gay bar scene and the cast of crazy characters who inhabit it.
The tale loops back in on itself, catching up to how it began, only with a twist, and the journey it takes in between start and finish is really fun. I especially like the rant the main character breaks into about the plight of the poor and crazy in this country. I don’t know what Mr. Nolan’s day job is, or perhaps was, but mine right now is determining who is or is not eligible for Medicaid, and I have to tell you, he’s spot on with his observations.
